On April 1, 2003, I came home to find that a fire had started in the apartment beneath mine on Lenox Ave. in Harlem. The firemen told me that if they arrived five minutes later, the entire building could have burned down. The first floor apartment was gutted, but the fire was contained through the efforts of the NYFD. The cause of the fire was deemed 'suspicious'.
